Are you still doing the same workouts you did 10+ years ago?
When I first start working with someone for physical therapy or personal training, I always ask what their current level of activity is including their workout routine if they have one. When we discuss gym routines, it is not uncommon for someone to tell me they do the same workout they learned for high school football. It is great they are in the gym. But, are you still playing football? Do you need to and should you be training like that? It is time to find the right workout program for you.
Train for your goals
If you are reading this, you are not in high school or even college playing sports, you likely work a desk job, maybe play recreational sports, and are living a busy social life, or busy life with kiddos. So why are you still working out like you did when you were 15-18 with all the time to spend in the gym? It is time to take the time to find the right workout program for where you are currently at.
You don’t need to have a goal of running a marathon to have something to work for in the gym. Your goal can be to be healthy, feel more confident, have the longevity of your strength and mobility, build stamina to run around with your kids, and be able to hike or explore new cities when traveling without being out of breath. (If you have traveled to some European countries in the hot summer with a million stairs, you know what I mean). I am here to tell you your goal does not have to be complicated.
Bring your workout routine to 2023
Are you doing bodybuilding splits but only going to the gym 2x/a week? It is not the best split for you!! Yes, it’s better than nothing, but why not optimize your time in the gym and really get the most bang for your buck? You do not need to spend hours at the gym to see results and reach your goals. Most of my clients, including myself, have 45-minute routines all in with warm up and cool down. Because they are quick, effective, and are also adapting healthier lifestyle habits that also aid in helping them reach their goals.
